From a distance it doesn't seem soooo enormous. When you actually walk up to it you are amazed. It has to be at least 25-30 feet tall. My son is 6'5" and he looks like a midget standing next to it. My 8 year old daughter can fit through it. It makes you wonder why they need such an enormous structure to keep people out in a border town that is nearly deserted. I live in Jacumba, CA and this is the view that I see on a regular basis. I don't understand why this or the 25 or so border patrol agents need to be in and around our town every day. Before 9/11 there was no fence here. There was no terrorism, and there was no problems with the small town of Jacume on the other side of the fence. They put up this giant monster after 9/11 and killed two towns and hurt many families who could no longer walk across to see their family or even to grocery shop. I just always wonder if this is really necessary or is the US going way overboard. If you do not live in this area then let me help you to understand. Every time that I leave to go to San Diego or to Imperial county I have to wait in a long line in the middle of the interstate at a border patrol check point. When you get to the front of the line they then proceed to ask you if you are a US citizen. I mean come on, who is going to say no to that???? Then they proceed to ask you where you are going. Like it is any of their business. I find this to be quite offensive and I still do not understand the need for this type of questioning. If you give them a hard time at all they can make your life miserable by making you pull over and doing a through search of your vehicle. I luckily have never had that pleasure, but I know a few people that have. Anyways I just wanted to have a little rant about this to make myself feel better. TTYL
